Firefox ruined usage of Remote Console

Am I missing something, or is there a reason you're not using the standalone iLO application? I've always found that great and never used it through a browser to start the server and remote control it.

Firefox ruined usage of Remote Console

A lot of browsers are cutting down the use of 3rd party plugin's these days. Worse case scenario, goto oldversions.com, grab an older version of Firefox and turn off updates.

Windows Home Server - Bringing it back online

Thanks for helping Dave. Yes it is indeed a HP MediaSmart server. I think it is a 495. It powers up and the blue lights come on, but because it is headless, I cannot see and guarantee it has successfully booted up. I think I need client software to access the storage, correct? I still listen to Reset now and again(busier life now), but I use to listen to you guys on the home server show all the time. I recall listening to you guys discuss the discontinuation of drive extender. Do you know if Synology has replicated this capability? Thanks!!
  5. I have an X3421 Gen10 Microserver w/ stock 8GB RAM running Windows Server 2019 Eval. I did the standard install, then added HyperV and container support. This isn't part of a domain - nothing is set up beyond the initial install and normal Windows updates. The boot disk is an MX500 SSD attached to SATA5 with 2 4TB 3.5" drives in the cage. I was seeing ~20% CPU utilization for the SYSTEM process and ~22% for SYSTEM INTERRUPTS. I tracked that down to the vEthernet device. When I uninstalled HyperV and removed the vEthernet device it dropped down to ~12.5% CPU for SYSTEM and ~2.5% CPU for SYSTEM INTERRUPTS. Note that this is looking at the task manager performance tab. If I right click on SYSTEM and select Go To Details it shows SYSTEM taking about 6% CPU and SYSTEM INTERRUPTS taking about 2%. I don't know what causes this discrepancy. Running LatencyMon (for about a 30 second run) shows Highest measused time: 343 Highest reported ISR time: 33.8 (storport.sys) Highest reported DPC time: 212.3 (ndis.sys) Total hard page fault: 26 I'm not sure how to track down the source of the SYSTEM process CPU usage. I don't see anything unusual in the event logs. Truthfully I'm more concerned about the SYSTEM CPU usage, but both seem high to me for a server that is basically just sitting there. Is there something strange going on or is this just the cost of running Server 2019 on a relatively low performance CPU? This server is replacing Home Server 2011 on a MediaSmart EX495 and idle CPU on that was about 3-5%. I have installed bios ZA10A360, chipset driver WS2012R2_W8_1, AMD Chipset Graphic Driver 17.1.1, and the Broadcom NX1 driver (cp031155) - all from the HP site. Not sure what else to try. Is this normal for Server 2019 with no load? Thanks in advance for any advice, -Jim

Firefox ruined usage of Remote Console

No. But as the reasons are security related I do believe the ESR will be updated accordingly soon.

Firefox ruined usage of Remote Console

Have you tried the ESR version of Firefox?
  8. The recent update of Firefox to v.67 ruined usage of Java Web Start remote console. Due to security reasons Mozilla decided to block .jnlp files to be executed from within the browser. Now the procedure to start remote console became very annoying: 1. Login to iLo 2. Go to remote console menu 3. Push the "web start" button 4. The only option Firefox is offering to you is to save the .jnlp file. 5. Save the .jnlp file somewhere on the disk 6. Open file explorer, find the .jnlp file and double click to run it. The situation now is very complicated. The new 2.70 iLo update has an HTML5 remote console, which should work in any browser. But some people here in the forum reported severe problems after iLo upgrade. So now I am still thinking what to do. I want to use Firefox, I don't want to use Edge, Chrome, or IE. I also expect that Microsoft and Google will also change their browsers soon and will block direct execution of .jnlp files.
  9. Hi All I have just dug out my old Gen8 (G1610T) and released that (a) I can not remember how I set it up and (b) I don't know how to update it. So I am hoping that some of you can point me in the right direction on what are the most recent stable updates (do they have to be applied incrementally) and also how you actually apply them. This is what I know:- Bios - j06 (06/06/2014) iLo IPv6 iLO 4 Advanced VMware ESXi 6.0.0 (build 2594585) Thanks Chris

Giving This Walmart Tablet a Try

At my local Walmart they had both 8 inch at 10 inch tablets. My only concern is the updates but only time will tell how often the security updates become available on this tablet. Correction: the price for the 10 inch tablet is $79.

Wow, 10" for $77. I know it's not a speed demon or anything like an iPad but that's not bad. Decent update on it with relevant OS. Hmmmm..... I wonder if it will run DJI software for flying?

You are correct Trig0r. I would not expect to play games on this tablet. I plan on using this tablet for streaming video and controlling my IoT devices.

I put a 256gb card in the FireTab thing, its just soo slow though, it's fine for basic media consumption, but for games, its just poop..
  17. I removed the duplicated post you put in the 2011 section as well as removed the formatting from this post as I can see that you did a copy/paste from mediasmartserver.net forums. No worries, let's see if we can get you some help. What is the server? Is it a MediaSmart server from HP? Does the WHS boot?

Giving This Walmart Tablet a Try

So far so good. I got all my apps installed which took most of the 16GB of space so I am looking for a 128GB micro SD card. That is what I am looking to do with this tablet Dave. There is a 10 inch tablet around $77 which has the same hardware specs. The tablet comes with Google Pie with security update from April 2019.

Nice find. I'm interested in how it turns out. This could be a nice automation tablet to have laying around or mounted somewhere. I've been wanting to jump back into that game and see if I can run a couple of apps at the same time on one screen. Let us know!

I am in the process of setting up this tablet with my apps. I agree with you and gave up in the Fire tablet myself. Curiousity got the best of me on this purchase. My expectations are low. My ententions for this tablet is to use around the house and video streaming.

    Parental Control Apps Compared

Openness and self regulation builds a better child in the long run, as long as there are consequences for stuff when they do go off track..

Something is very wrong with my Gen8

What happens if you run some sort of CPU tester? Like this.. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool CPU's dont run flat out 24/7, they dynamically change clock speed depending on load, or in order to protect themselves due to bad cooling.

I read an online article about this 8 inch Android tablet for $65 at Walmart (Onn Android Tablet, 8" http://www.walmart.com/ip/Onn-Android-Tablet-8/767511102). This tablet has Android Pie which peaked my curiosity and opened my wallet.

    Parental Control Apps Compared

By chance do you happen to work for this company? Having only one post here makes me think so. If so what do you do for iOS devices? Speaking of, there was a shakeup in the iOS world concerning these apps. I'm sure you have heard by now. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/27/technology/apple-screen-time-trackers.html I have yet to see a comprehensive list of the apps in question but one in my list was for sure effected. OurPact, Freedom, Mobicip, Kidslox, and Qustodio, and more. I need to go through the app store and dig around some more. I have also changed some things I'm doing with my kids. I think I spoke about it on RESET but I am giving more freedom to the kids as long as I still have access to the device and can look at history. I still will run some sort of gateway control to catch viruses and scams, etc. I also want to continue to encourage self regulation of usage. Having said that my kids still don't have official phones. Just and xbox and iPad. Phones will come soon and still might do some location type thing on them. My guess is that will also be taken out of the mix with some good behavior. Not real sure yet.
  26. Im running a E3-1265L V2. I noticed that windows reads 0.25Ghz: https://i.imgur.com/ntbBSQz.png CPU utilization is 0% : https://i.imgur.com/zql63MR.png OS is Windows 10 and perhaps this started when I installed that OS. Server 2016 did not have this issue. My BIOS is the newest from 2018

    Parental Control Apps Compared

I"m reminded of a recent episode Black Mirror. In any case this is a very intricate topic. I worry that some of the products are so deeply tied into the devices that they might themselves represent a risk for intrusion.
