Go to Diagnostics, click on iLO Health and you will see a format card option. It worked on my Gen8 server.

    ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 Links

I downgraded to 2.54 version, then I had the following message: Embedded Flash/SD-CARD Controller firmware revision 2.10.00 Embedded media manager failed initialization Then I upgraded again to 2.70 after some reboots, an I have the following error: Controller firmware revision 2.10.00 Embedded media initialization failed due to media write-verify test failure Guess I can't do anything about it
  8. @CB1 Thanks for your information, IML logs is empty(no information), also try to remove and replug memories and other parts. Now I can confirm I may break the CPU socket in the motherboard when I trying to replace the CPU.

thks, I'll try it this evening, I'll keep you updated
  10. Are you talking about the ambient sensor cable? If you unplug it you should just get the 01-Inlet Ambient being -1C and it should not affect anything else and should boot normally. I would update to the latest BIOS and see what happens. Also make sure that the memory is seated properly. What does the IML (logs) say?

Have you tried taking iLo back to an earlier version? What version BIOS are you running? Look at the 9th post in this thread: https://community.hpe.com/t5/ProLiant-Servers-ML-DL-SL/HP-Proliant-Gen8-SD-CARD-issue-iLO-diagnostic/td-p/6971780#.XOIeechKguU

I had the same error before the update. I talked about it on a French forum and some other had this issue and the motherboard had to be replaced....

It seems to be that I will postpone the iLo update for now. As at least two persons reported here problems.

I did the update, still the same error on ilo Health, I tried the format but still the error. I guess there s a real problem with my gen8...but it s no more under warranty...

    Upgrading Gen8 with no contract

Hello, I recently upgraded my Gen8 J06 (Linux OS) and prefered to use separate upgrade process than the SPP. For Bios, i used this then : Unpack : rpm2cpio <rpm_filename>.rpm | cpio -id Check where is the usefull file (hpsetup) : rpm -qlp <filename>.rpm Then go to the repo and execute with ./hpsetup + reboot Same for Ilo (here) and the P420 (here). It works fine and i guess the double ROM could rescue in case of problem (i didn't test this). I guess it's the same for microsoft. Ps. I don't have any ilo licence.
  17. Hi, wondering if anyone can advise what the correct process is to update firmware / drivers etc on Gen8 Microserver with no warranty/support? I've seen the Spectre update is available for free https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5390291&swItemId=MTX_671606ca210640bbb93ae3b683&swEnvOid=4184 However, I am not sure if the process is better to download a service pack instead that contains updates together? I am running FreeNAS 11.2. On another note, I am wondering if there is any way of utilising iLO without having a license? Thank you very much

I tried to install a windows server but it fails as it asks for a driver, I guess for the LSI SAS9211-4i but all the drivers I try don't work. Do I need a driver for any embeded card in th microserver ? I want to install the windows just to do the Ilo update and try to get rid of the ilo error.

    Synology 2 Bay DS218+ VS DS218

Agree with @schoondoggy I usually recommend the plus in almost all circumstances. You said streaming, so yes. Go Plus.
  20. @CB1 I think I've broken the Sensor Cable when I trying to unplug the sensor cable(to upgrade the CPU), now the status page in iLO look like this, I can not boot anymore, Not sure it's related to temp sensor or the replaced CPU, but I tried to replace the CPU back, still the same problem.
  21. Thanks for the reply Kingeth3. That's what I thought, so I did in fact reseat it and reapply thermal compound, and it made no difference. I also did it a 3rd time just to make sure! (However this last time, I'm now getting different temps on the cores, but that may just be due to the uneven fan airflow, it's a ghetto mod after all 🙂). I guess that even though it's only an extra 14w it's practically 30% of your 45w.... So that could account as a hefty bump for the extra 20c or so.... (I also live in a hot country, so ambient temperature is high). I apply thermal compound the old fashioned way, just enough to cover the bare metal with an old credit card. Been doing it that way for years (since the mid 90's). Never been quite sure how much to put when people refer to a pea size dot in the middle! (Peas come in many sizes!). I used to do a lot of overclocking, lapping heatsinks (sometimes even the top of the chips themselves!), as well as watercooling. Now I can't be bothered, i just want things to run smoothly and quietly, since speed is not really an issue anymore... Certainly when the heatsink comes off the spread of the compound seems fairly even.... The noise of the fan is irritating, so I may have another go... 😉

    ILO IP unknown

    No luck unfortunately

    ILO IP unknown

Did yesterday. Cant say for sure 10 minutes. Can try again.
  24. 100 celcius? That's hot. I have a 1265L V2, which has a TDP of 45W vs your 69W, and I took the liberty of running a stress test for about half an hour. It's in an almost-closed cupboard and idles below 40 with the stock heatsink, and with the test it would not go past 81. This is all to say, are you sure your CPU is properly thermally connected to your heatsink? Does the extra 14W make such a difference?!

did you try disconnect power for 10 minutes?

    ILO IP unknown

I tried update firmware on the ILO yesterday. Now it responds on ping but on boot up it says IP ILO 4 unknown. Running HPONCFG gives me error. Trying to start Online ROM Flash component and trows me "The software will not be installed on this system because the required hardware is not present in the system or the software/firmware doesn´t apply to this system. Ilo channel interface driver is not loaded. Is there any way of resetting the ILO?

CPU temp readings are corrected? it was 40*C ilo 2.62 and now its showing around 60*C on my 1260L and remote console html5 is working on chrome
  28. I managed to pick up a Xeon 1240 v2 cheap ($50), I wasn't going to upgrade my i5 3470-T, but couldn't turn that deal down... Obviously now I have a heat management issue... Without any mods, It idles around 50c and ramps up to the 100's under stress (Handbrake encoding) after a few minutes. After a quick ghetto mod of shoving in 2 * 40mm fans behind the heatsink temps drop to about 30-35c idle and 65-70c after an hour encoding. The fans I'm using are old (just what I had lying around) and they whine, I couldn't hear the server before, now I can.... So... Should I just swap out the fans for something quieter like the (a pair) Noctua NF-A4x20 FLX https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072JK9GX6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1Z5H6ZGWCMTNX&psc=1 or go the whole hog and replace the heatsink as well with a Noctua NH-L9i? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009VCAJ7W/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A1Z5H6ZGWCMTNX&psc=1 Modded like this; (look at the right-hand photo) (are there any quicker ways to mod/fit it?). http://forum.lab501.ro/showpost.php?p=466072&postcount=504 The cost difference is negligible, however the time spent modding it isn't, and I like to just get things up and running quickly. The fan swap will just take minutes, and I'm ok with the temperatures I get from it, which will probably improve with better fans and thermal grease. However, if the noise would be less then i'm happy to go with the heatsink swap... Anyone have any ideas or thoughts? or better solutions that I may have missed... Thanks
