    Gen10+ Anyone got one yet?

Thinking of buying one. On fence. Would like to retire my large full tower Core i5 Ivy Bridge box. Already have 2 x 10 TB Iron Wolfs running on an LSI card in IT mode. Current system has : 2 Iron Wolfs, 1 SSD OS, 1 SSD For VMs and 1 WD Purple for IP cameras. Too many drives for this Gen 10 Plus. Any ideas? Also does it support Intel Virtualization for using Hyper-V VMs?

    CPU for Microserver 10plus

Really hoped this box supported Intel QuickSync on CPU. Seems like a miss.

    email retention policy

the couple of times I've been involved in this sort of thing , I was told not to delete anything until I was given the go ahead by our legal department I dont think this is being handled properly

    email retention policy

I would refrain from deleting anything that could be pertinent to the case if you already know a lawsuit has been filed. It could end up drawing you into the litigation. I am not a lawyer but I have seen lawsuits happen where an employee computer is taken and entire hard drive is copied to retain records. Many companies have record retention policies to limit the scope of information like this. It is up to the employees to be following the company policy if automatic processes are not already in place.

    Windows 10 May 2020

Yeah I'm a fan of Win10 tbh, as you say, even on older kit, a Win10 install and an SSD will keep even old machines chugging along nicely..

    email retention policy

I never delete emails, and at the last place i worked EVERYTHING was given a follow up email, annoyed people but those that it annoyed tended to be those people that say one thing to your face and then something else when its in email form, or when you catch them out they sudddenly remove people that are cc'd into the email.. Be careful, and remember Doing the right thing is always the right thing.

IANAL ... and without details of the litigation but ... ... I would check that the backups are working and that all records are kept. If your management team is honest then they might end up thanking you for proving their case. If not ... and they fire you ... then I'd expect you to have an easy claim for unfair dismissal and you might well be better out of such a company anyways. Easy for me to say of course!

you are in a tight spot leaving you vulnerable as a scapegoat. does your company have a legal department you could consult with??? one way to help yourself might be to follow up the verbal exchanges with email confirmations but I am not a lawyer... it might be a good idea to consult written company policy documents as well.

    email retention policy

my company is getting sued so I was told to retain emails from certain upper management from the president, now Im being told not to retain them until I get an official notice from the law firm ...This feels fishy, like someone wants to go in and "clean" up....i warned the pres that "deleted" doesnt necessarily mean completely gone.... anyone been in this position ? Im documenting everything at this point....what is more concerning is I wasnt told this in an email, I had a personal visit so technically there is no record of it

    Windows 10 May 2020

I have become somewhat lazy (using the in-place rather than the clean-build route) and bullish (reckless?) so made changes to all my machines this morning. In general everything went slowly and smoothly ... - DELL 7920 Windows Pro for Workstations - HP Microserver N36 W Pro - HP Microserver N54 W Pro - 2x HP Microserver Gen8 W Pro - LINX 1010 Leather Tablet W Home - LINX 1010 Tablet W Pro - CHUWI Hi13 Tablet W Home … the only exceptions being 2 x LINX 1010Education tablets which run W Pro: here I received error 0xa0000400 after a message saying I was compatible and good to go. Something to look at later … or wait for my turn. So far the usual annoyances such as changes to windows positioning in Explorer and Edge but nothing substantial. I also find it necessary to switch Network Discovery off and back on to make sure the shared file systems are visible in Explorer/Network. Couple of nice, if small, things I’ve noticed already: - GPU temperature and disk type (SSD, SD, HDD) in Task Manager/Performance - In Security Settings one can dismiss warnings that there are no MSA accounts for Onedrive, giving a green tick in the notification area Still no CPU performance graph for the Gen8 – maybe that’s my fault for not being at the latest BIOS level? While I am critical of MSFT on other counts, I think W10 is one of the best things the company has done. Over the last month I’ve upgraded two old (7 and 9 years) laptops from W7 to W10 (still FOC producing a genuine activated licenses) and am pleasantly surprised how good the driver detection and provision is. HAND (have a nice download)

    HPE Microserver Gen10 Plus

This thread indicates the 10+ doesn’t support Intel Quicksync regardless. https://community.hpe.com/t5/proliant-servers-netservers/microserver-gen10-plus-and-intel-quick-sync/td-p/7084407/page/3

    HPE Microserver Gen10 Plus

You could buy the cheaper Pentium version and swap out the CPU for one with QuickSync perhaps?

    HPE Microserver Gen10 Plus

Am intrigued by this Gen 10+. Considered one for a WSE rebuild until I realized it doesn’t support Intel Quicksync which my core i5 Ivy Bridge does. That would be a step back unfortunately. Disappointed.

  19. Update here: I picked up 2 Intel SSDs and 2 aftermarket drive cages and they all seem to be working great. This server is listed as “Diskless configuration” and Dell incorrectly told me it wouldn't work with drives. I figured out that the system still has the Dell S130 software RAID, which only works for Windows installations. Our firewall guy didn't want to run pfSense inside a VM so I just installed pfSense directly. I turned off RAID and put it in AHCI mode and both disks were presented to pfSense. I used a ZFS mirror because why not?! This server has 64 GB of RAM so way overkill for just pfSense!
  20. Hi Guys, my Microserver Gen10 Plus has just arrived. 😎 I switch CPU from Pentium to Xeon but esxi doesn't see the raid storage. I can read in HPE manual that there is a HPE Smart Array S100i which is software raid ;-( Is there any way to use this raid under esxi or should I buy another raid card

  25. Hi all, I am new to the server world (please be gentle) and I desperately need some help! I recently acquired a HP MicroServer Gen8. Bays 1 & 2 have 1TB SSD each and I believe they are setup in a RAID 1 config (not sure how to check) and have windows server 2012 installed. Bays 3 & 4 are empty and I recently purchased a 4TB WD Blue Hard Drive and managed to install windows 10 onto it via a separate computer. I've now inserted the 4TB Hard drive into bay 3 and want windows 10 to load up, but its not doing that....it keeps loading up windows server 2012 thats in bays 1/2 hard drives. How can I choose which bay to boot windows from? I like it to boot from Bay 3 most of the time that has windows 10. In normal computers, it was simple to organise the boot order via BIOS, but with the Gen8 its seems very complex with HP's own BIOS...etc and it's starting to give me a headache! Any help from anyone will be really appreciated! A simple easy to follow instructions will suffice.

    Podcast app for iPhone

What are people using to keep track of their podcasts? I have been using the Apple one that comes with the iPhone, but quite often, when I go to play a podcast it says that its unavailble, which is rather annoying as its meant to be downloading new episodes as and when they are aired..

    Contemplating A New Build

I bought upgrade 5-user licences for GBP £50 over several years, finishing with 2019. Reviews of ATI 2020 seem to say it is not worth the update and recovery media seem to have to change every time there is a s/w update which is a big NO for me. Fortunately I was pointed to a much simpler "MVP Custom PE Builder" tool which seems to work with many earlier versions (plus Win 7 & 10 clients) and was much easier to set up, especially if a USB external HDD is used. There was excellent help for me to understand what to do step by step in this thread... https://forum.acronis.com/comment/538834#comment-538834 I am happy to stick with ATI2019 which will receive no more updates

    Contemplating A New Build

I will have to amend my comment - For 2020, Acronis has switched to a "yearly" subscription model. At $50 USD per year for a single computer for personal use, I no longer think this is reasonably priced. It may be worth it for some and its considerably discounted for multiple computers
