Thanks pumek, that is helpful. Can I confirm the following from you with your given install: 1) That you have installed the "HPE Gen9plus" version of ESXi on a Microserver Gen8? 2) Do you have responsive SSH access to your ESXi (not using the "Alt + F1" option)? Does your session freeze at all with inputs (login, command inputs, etc)? 3) Is the Web UI responsive (etc Creating Datastores or viewing the Datastore File browser, switch between navigation options, etc). Thanks again.

    RocketRaid 2720 Not Detecting Drives

Was a bad power cable. Got her working, but I have a new problem. Massive DPC Latency and audio popping coming from the card. When I disable it in the device manager, issues go away. Enable it, I can use the array but get audio popping. Do you know how to fix this? Or another card which I can buy that has better support for Windows 10?
  6. Hi, I just upgraded my laptop to the latest Windows 10 1903 (18362.53) which is in release preview. The following issue may or may not be resulting from that. My WS2012R2 Essentials server is now reporting this laptop as Offline. On the other hand the connector icon on the laptop is green, I can launch the Dashboard through it, so everything seems to be connected. More importantly, I now cannot backup this laptop: it tries and complains that it cannot connect to the WS Essentials Client Computer Management Service. I have tried reinstalling the Connector to no avail. It used to work a couple of weeks ago, before this upgrade, but in principle it could have been some other unrelated change. Does anyone else have a similar problem with Windows 1903? Or is it just me? Is there something I can try?

    ESXi notes

If you have a working system (pumek or any other), could you please confirm your system profile by typing the following via ESXi Shell / ssh with your ESXi instance?: from ssh: ssh root@<ipaddress of ESXi> "esxcli software profile get" from ESXi screen (iLO4) 1. Press Alt + F1 (or Alt + F2 to return), to access the ESXi shell. 2. Login (if you are unable, you will need to enable ESXi shell using the "<F2> Customise System -> Troubleshooting Options -> Enable ESXi Shell" option) 3. type at the prompt: "esxcli software profile get" and copy the top part of the text (before VIB section) As an example, you should get a response similar to the following attachment. I am currently having problems with my ESXi build which I will make a thread about and this will greatly help in identifying if my software is the issue.

    Tips for Server 2019 install

Is there an Essentials 2019 SKU?
  16. Hello, I have a gen8 microserver with a SSD on the ODD port and 4 HDD (2x6To and 2x3To). What is the best solution to add a SSD into the Gen8 ? I'd like to have 2 SSD in mirror to store the Proxmox System and VMS, so I need an additional connector. Do I need a card like P22 smart array ? If yes, can I connect everything to this card without using the internal B210i car and ODD connector ?
  17. The gen 10 is inferior to the Gen 8 in every way so i really wouldnt go that route The 35W cooler looks like the image below Best Bang for Buck atm is the 4 Core 4 Thread 3.3Ghz 1220 V2 though my example seems to be a very poor binning as can be seen by the VID for xGhz which up's the power use but for £30 i took it The max cpu i would Consider is the 1240 V2 Best CPU after the 1265L V2 i would say is the 1230 V2 It should come binned around the same as my 1240 V2 with 3.5Ghz instead of 3.6Ghz Total Package Power (Core + Uncore) (Peak Power use worst you will ever see in synthetic apps) Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1265L v2 42.4W 3.1ghz 0.9907v AVX 39.4W 3.1Ghz 0.9807v Non AVX Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1220 v2 50.8W 3.3Ghz 1.1609v AVX 44.6W 3.3Ghz 1.1509v Non AVX Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1240 v2 55.3W 3.6Ghz 1.0908v AVX 50.3W 3.6Ghz 1.0808v Non AVX example 39.4W 3.1Ghz 0.9807v Non AVX is usually around 38.5W in Prime 95 These are unrealistic power scenario's My highest load App is Handbrake and that 38.5W comes down to around 33W Peak If you fit a blower cooler like the Sunon Maglev GB1206PTV2-AY 60x60x25mm or Delta BFB0512LD 50x50x20mm you can goto a 1240 V2 with the stock 35W Cooler I recommend the Sunon as its the ideal size and has better airflow but harder to find Go here for info (if you need to look at images in the page you have to edit postimg.org to postimg.cc) https://homeservershow.com/forums/topic/10922-xeon-e3-1240-v2-xeon-e3-1265l-v2-comparison/ https://postimg.cc/B8g6wDZ3 https://postimg.cc/7CV8ynTB
  18. Pop the lid off, then look under the drive bays, you'll see if you have the newer heatsink as it also has heatpipes on it...

    ESXi notes

ESXi 6.7 Update 2 is installed. I do however use a Xeon E3 1265L V2 CPU. I ran in to problems not having enough diskspace (although swap was enabled) doing an online upgrade. Reverted to booting with ISO instead of online upgrade. That worked flawlessly and much quicker.
  20. Hi all, I have two Gen 8 MicroServers. I think I am getting to a stage where they will be usable soon. I am using as experimental test servers. I might even use them as small NAS'es and virtualization hosts (if the other home servers I am building don't work out). One has an i3, so I assume it has the larger stock cooler. The other has a Celeron, so I assume it has the smaller stock cooler. I want to upgrade the CPU's but E3-1265Lv2's are expensive. The vendor I normally go to has a few but _even he_ said they are poor value for money. (I'm not sure how much money to sink into these Gen 8's. Maybe I should sell them an upgrade to Gen 10? Rhetorical questions only, and food for thought.) I need to open them up and compare the coolers. Perhaps I could upgrade the cooler on the Celeron machine and then I would have a far greater range of options for CPU's for each of them..? I don't know if this is likely to work out well financially. What is the HPE P/N for the larger cooler? If the E3-1265Lv2 is the ideal high end CPU for the regular stock coolers, then what is the ideal quiet CPU for the larger stock coolers? Is the larger cooler with a more powerful CPU likely to be noiser? Are there other (non-stock) coolers that I can use, e.g., Noctua? Will the machine POST? Thank you!! Kind regards, ullbeking

    Malware affecting QNAP NAS's

UPDATE: The QNAP SUPPORT GUY was great and was logged on for almost an Hour Friday Night But he couldn't get it fixed - He told me that he was going to escalate this and get back to me this week. Wasn't sure that even if were fixed, I could trust it. so after verifying that I had good backups, I reinitialized the NAS and reformated all the data disks Loading in the backup files now - The process wasn't difficult nor did it require a lot of touch time - but a lot of downtime ~ 8 hours for building the raid and going on 12 hours to load in the data cant help but think that someone hacked the firmware update - it happened immediately after I installed one The biggest challenge in security now and in the future will be moles infiltrating previously trusted spaces again, I am not going to install any firmware update that is newer than a month going forward, My NAS was working fine and the "updates" didnt add anything of value to warrant the risk.
