Giving This Walmart Tablet a Try

Wow, 10" for $77. I know it's not a speed demon or anything like an iPad but that's not bad. Decent update on it with relevant OS. Hmmmm..... I wonder if it will run DJI software for flying?

You are correct Trig0r. I would not expect to play games on this tablet. I plan on using this tablet for streaming video and controlling my IoT devices.

I put a 256gb card in the FireTab thing, its just soo slow though, it's fine for basic media consumption, but for games, its just poop..
  8. I removed the duplicated post you put in the 2011 section as well as removed the formatting from this post as I can see that you did a copy/paste from mediasmartserver.net forums. No worries, let's see if we can get you some help. What is the server? Is it a MediaSmart server from HP? Does the WHS boot?

Giving This Walmart Tablet a Try

So far so good. I got all my apps installed which took most of the 16GB of space so I am looking for a 128GB micro SD card. That is what I am looking to do with this tablet Dave. There is a 10 inch tablet around $77 which has the same hardware specs. The tablet comes with Google Pie with security update from April 2019.

Nice find. I'm interested in how it turns out. This could be a nice automation tablet to have laying around or mounted somewhere. I've been wanting to jump back into that game and see if I can run a couple of apps at the same time on one screen. Let us know!

I am in the process of setting up this tablet with my apps. I agree with you and gave up in the Fire tablet myself. Curiousity got the best of me on this purchase. My expectations are low. My ententions for this tablet is to use around the house and video streaming.

    Parental Control Apps Compared

Openness and self regulation builds a better child in the long run, as long as there are consequences for stuff when they do go off track..

So many cheap android tab around these days, as long as the CPU/GPU isnt too weak it should be fine.. I decided to get myself a Fire8HD thing from Amazon, that was slooow to the point that I ended up dropping the money for a new iPad Mini instead..

Something is very wrong with my Gen8

What happens if you run some sort of CPU tester? Like this.. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool CPU's dont run flat out 24/7, they dynamically change clock speed depending on load, or in order to protect themselves due to bad cooling.

I read an online article about this 8 inch Android tablet for $65 at Walmart (Onn Android Tablet, 8" http://www.walmart.com/ip/Onn-Android-Tablet-8/767511102). This tablet has Android Pie which peaked my curiosity and opened my wallet.

    Parental Control Apps Compared

By chance do you happen to work for this company? Having only one post here makes me think so. If so what do you do for iOS devices? Speaking of, there was a shakeup in the iOS world concerning these apps. I'm sure you have heard by now. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/27/technology/apple-screen-time-trackers.html I have yet to see a comprehensive list of the apps in question but one in my list was for sure effected. OurPact, Freedom, Mobicip, Kidslox, and Qustodio, and more. I need to go through the app store and dig around some more. I have also changed some things I'm doing with my kids. I think I spoke about it on RESET but I am giving more freedom to the kids as long as I still have access to the device and can look at history. I still will run some sort of gateway control to catch viruses and scams, etc. I also want to continue to encourage self regulation of usage. Having said that my kids still don't have official phones. Just and xbox and iPad. Phones will come soon and still might do some location type thing on them. My guess is that will also be taken out of the mix with some good behavior. Not real sure yet.
  18. Im running a E3-1265L V2. I noticed that windows reads 0.25Ghz: https://i.imgur.com/ntbBSQz.png CPU utilization is 0% : https://i.imgur.com/zql63MR.png OS is Windows 10 and perhaps this started when I installed that OS. Server 2016 did not have this issue. My BIOS is the newest from 2018

    Parental Control Apps Compared

I"m reminded of a recent episode Black Mirror. In any case this is a very intricate topic. I worry that some of the products are so deeply tied into the devices that they might themselves represent a risk for intrusion.

    Parental Control Apps Compared

Agree, I was blocking certain stuff through the Deco when I was using that, however completely removing things removes a level of interaction that parents should be part of when it comes to educating children, removing all access to stuff just opens a can of worms further down the road...

    Parental Control Apps Compared

I don't support the use of parental control apps that can interfere with children's devices too much, and sometimes doing so will only get even worse results. So I just use KidsGuard Pro to monitor their phones without directly interfering with their activities, and I will talk to them directly when necessary. This is the way I personally agree.

    Memory for Microserver Gen8

Just wanted to say thank you for your help Schoodoggy. The memory finally arrived (had a sight delay), and it works perfectly. Excellent value for for $30! (plus $10 delivery). I have upgraded my Gen8 to 16gb & a Xeon E3-1240 v2 for less than $100! I only run a Debian headless server with docker, so this will last for a few more years before it needs replacing.
  23. I bought my WHS several years ago. I am not the most tech savvy, but was briefly able to get my pc to back up to it. We moved back in 2011 and tons of 'life' happened. I now would like to hook it back up. Also, it powers up and lights come on. I can hear at least one of my 3 drives spin. unfortunately, I cannot access it like a network drive. I think I need a client app. My current PC does not have a CD drive and I am not even sure if I still have the disk. What are my options? I am now on Windows 10. Is there a download somewhere? I have heard that there are back-up probs with Win10. Either way, I'd like to access all the family pics we saved there. Thanks!

    ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 Links

did you try new microSD card?
  26. I upgraded a DL360 Gen8 lab server to Window Server 2019, and noticed that unlike 2016, I can no longer use just two ports for WAN, host LAN access and Hyper-V LAN access. I'm running Sophos UTM Home as a Hyper-V VM on both so I need two NICs in Hyper-V. I notice that when I try to put the Hyper-V Virtual Switch on eth2, it gives me an error that it's already bound to the Virtual Switch protocol. But in properties, it's unchecked! I'm wondering if I'm missing something, or this will happen to my Microserver as well. And since the Microserver effectively only has two NICs for OS access, this won't work? Hope I've explained it clear enough? Server 2016 on Microserver Gen8 and previously DL360 Gen8 eth1: WAN (not shared to hypervisor) eth2: LAN (access to hypervisor and Hyper-V VMs) Server 2019 on DL360 Gen8 eth1: WAN (not shared to hypervisor) eth2: LAN (WS 2019 host/hypervisor) eth3: LAN (Hyper-V virtual switch) *and yes, the physical port assignments are correct. Not sure why but Windows identifies physical ethernet port 2 as #1 and port 1 as #2 yet ports 3 and 4 are correct!
