    Migrate to Gen10

The MS Gen10 had a fdd power connector in the odd bay. You just need a fdd to data power adapter. ESXi works on the MS Gen10, but it is not a supported OS. The storage adapter is different on the Gen10 as well.

    Migrate to Gen10

I recently "crashed" my Centos install on my Gen8 server (updated with Xeon cpu) running Plex Media server, 4x2TB HDD in raid config, 1 256GB SSD. I am now considering migrating to a gen10 mainly to have a more silent server which takes less energy. My last friends install of a Gen10 I had a really hard time installing a fifth SATA drive. I think I could not find anywhere to power it if I took the DVD bay SATA connector. Is it worth the hassle? My gen8 is currently a fileserver, surveillance camera server, plex server etc etc. I am considering switching to ESXi running Centos

  8. This has been happening to me consistently with every Win10 update, me thinks, and have simply got tired of fixing it. And by fixing, it means reinstalling the client Launchpad, which means it restores connectivity and backup to WHS2011 about 3 out of 5 times. With WHS2011 at EoS and with the OS it is based on (Win2k8) going EoS next year, I will have to move on and choose from three options: 1. Go with Win2k16 plus Essentials role 2. Go with Win2k19 plus UrBackup 3. Go with Win10 plus UrBackup I still have a few months to think this over and plan for it. It’s a big move as this server is doing a lot more things besides backing up the clients; Plex, UniFi Controller, just off the top of my head.

  10. Well I fixed the problem. Simply Delete All the Data in the Backup Folder. Although you loose your old back up's, the process will run normal and without any errors. Sad to see this forum dying off.

    Additional SSDs in Gen8 case

Are you running the MS Gen8 as AHCI or B120i? What NAS OS are you planning to use?
  17. We're having issues with ASB in the area so thinking of having a remote camera fitted outside so I can monitor things. Anyone here, @Dave? Used the Ring Stick up stuff before? Thinking the black would do the job when its out, but need to know how the battery life is, and if the Mic can be enabled when it pick up motion, or if its just a 2 way talk thing?

    Additional SSDs in Gen8 case

I have a Gen8 that I'm planning on using as a NAS. I have set it up to boot ESXi from the internal USB, and use currently have an SSD mounted in the drive bay slot via the Sata 2.0 optical connector (so half speed) that I use as the ESXi data store). I'd like to be able to: - add two additional SSDs that would be available to the NAS - migrate the current SSD to data 3.0 to get full speed 1. Is this possible? If so how? Can I use a card like the P222 to add another additional internal 4 SATA connectors? Do I have to flash it in IT mode? How do I do that? 2. Can I fit this all in the same case? Where can I get power? 3. If I can't fit it in the case, can I use an external caddy for the SSDs? How can I do this? 4. My Gen8 came with an optical drive- where can I get a cover for the Gen8 slot so that I can remove the drive? I have a 3d printer, is there an existing design? Thanks for your thoughts!

    ESXi notes

I had to look in the vmware.xml in the metadata directory of the zip file to find the correct image profile. The Image Profile is HPE-ESXi-6.7.0-Update3-Gen9plus-670.U3.10.4.5.19 Then it updated just fine!

    Memory for Microserver Gen8

Looks like either would work, correct type and speed, unbuffered, ECC. Both SK-Hynix and Samsung manufacture their own DRAM

  24. Some short note: installation of WSE 2016 with corresponding drivers from HP home page was successful. So the driver for WSE 2012R2 is buggy.

    ESXi notes

Awesome I just found it. I'm trying to update via SSH on stand alone ESXI and having issues with the command esxcli software profile update -p ESXi-6.7.0-20190802001-standard -d /vmfs/volumes/SSD/updates/VMware-ESXi-6.7.0-Update3-14320388-HPE-Gen9plus-670.U3.10.4.5.19-Aug2019-depot.zip [NoMatchError] No image profile found with name 'ESXi-6.7.0-20190802001-standard' id = ESXi-6.7.0-20190802001-standard How can I determine which image profiles are available in the depot? I entered the image profile shown on the configuration screen after I login (ESXi-6.7.0-20190802001-standard) I don't really know what a depot is so I've tried this command, but I don't know the depot name esxcli --server=server_name software sources profile list --depot=http://webserver/depot_name

    ESXi notes

Hi. I just bought a gen 8 to use as a NAS and upgraded to Xeon E3 1265L V2 CPU. I did a vanilla install of ESXi 6.7u3 (on USB stick) before I came upon this thread. Are there any updates or patches that I should use for drivers or is there a better ISO I should use for the install (I read about people using the gen9 iso. And if so where can I get it?
