iLO how to get working

Had my Gen 8 for a long time but one thing that bothered me was I was never able to get iLO working.

SO here I am asking for help!!!.

BTW, I did try search but seem the term "iLO" doesn't produce any results

So I've set it up in the bios to use the network port 1.

It comes up with the IP its using.

But when entering the IP in a browser it just times out.

What I'm not sure on, do I need to install software configure anything, I;ve read some info about licensing, but is there not a free version etc?

Cheers

you just need a browser and to go to the ip adress. Are you sure it's the good ip adress, that the server is plugged in ?

Sure am.

I RDP into it currently with the same IP address, just no luck with iLO via Web.

I think the ilo with have it's own IP address (even though you are using the "shared" port), this should show when you boot the server, or you could maybe look at your router to see what DHCP address have been assigned, and you may be able to spot it there.

Thanks,

I double checked with monitor plugged in, has the same IP for iLO as it does for the OS.

So, I went back into the iLo settings in the bios and tried the following.

Setting to an IP not the same as the OS IP, still no luck. Could not even ping the IP.

Setting it to DHCP, noticed the server had a messed saying unknown IP.

Could be a hardware fault?

Umm, I don't use the shared port, but would have though the IP would need to be different from the OS.

Within the ilo config, have you set it to use the shared NIC.

From here: http://h17007.www1.hp.com/docs/iss/proliant_uefi/v25048904.html

From the Network Options screen, view or update the following values:

  • Network Interface Adapter—Specifies the iLO network interface adapter to use. Select ON to enable the iLO Dedicated Network Port. Select Shared Network Port to use the Shared Network Port. OFF disables all network interfaces to iLO.

The Shared Network Port option is available only on supported servers

Yes,

Very familiar with the settings.

Seems that having it on Shared Network Port, and setting it to a different IP, still does not work.

I've configured it to "On" and used the dedicated port, and that does work.

I'd rather use the Shared port, so as not to use up my limited ports available....

I'm surprised the with trying to use Remote Console, it times out after a few seconds saying you need to buy an Advanced license, What The!

Also I'm on a mac, how do you "press Control-Alt-Delete though the remote session?

Cheers

What IP, subnet mask and gateway you set for iLO on shared port and your PC?

Do you reset iLO after network settings?

Sure did.

Basically

IP 192.168.1.14 (iLO)

Server / OS is 192.168.1.12

Both Ip are out of the DHCP range I've set on my router.

Subnet

255.255.255.254

Gateway

192.168.1.254 (Router)

Configuring this, it automatically resets

Since I've got it working on the dedicated port, I've done a firmware update, will see if that makes a change using it on the shared nic port.
