Raid 10 - in pairs or across all 4 HDD ?

I can't immediately see any benefit in Raid 10 across all 4 HDDs compared with having pairs of HDDs (one Sata 3 and one Sata 2) each being Raid 10.

Can anybody help me understand better?

Well, you get the benefits of RAID 0 and RAID 1.

Specifically, it's striped between multiple disks, so you definitely should see a speed boost. But the drives are also mirrored, so you can lose a drive without losing all of your data.

Ah !! I though you could have RAID 10 with only 2 drives, as I had hoped to buy 2x6TB drives then add an other pair when finance permits. Thanks for correcting my misunderstanding.
