What are the fan speed in iLO? Are you running the disk in RAID or AHCI mode as this will have an impact of the fan speed. Have you updated to the latest bios/firmware as this is know to fix many of the common high fan speed issues.

I use AHCI and I observe that my fan turn to 21%.

Is the fan set to optimal

Is the cpu set to os control

have you setup spindown after say 60mins idle

Not really sure how you would be at 21% doing nothing

Its boiling here atm

and also my microserver has been transcoding for the last 14 hours (Xeon 1265LV2)

and my fan is still lower

Checked : OK

I don't find this option in my BIOS... Where is it ?

I live to Montpellier (south of France) and my Anbient is to 28°. That don't explain a speed fan to 21%.

Thank you for your help.

On the subject of noise, I have 4x WD Red 6TB drives in my Gen8, I have FreeNAS installed with just Plex, nothing else, and I can hear the drives making sound about every 5 seconds, constantly - the hdd access light near the button illuminates at the same time, too, obviously. Anyway, my fan runs 20%+ also and compared to the noise the drives make it is silent, I assumed it was normal for NAS drives to make noises like this (I've had an SSD for a few years now in my PC..) but is something wrong with my setup?

I actually tried setting the drive sleep time in Freenas to like 10 minutes, but it didn't seem to do anything so I reverted it.
