ESXi notes

I use the HP P222 controller for my RAID, so I don't use the B120i controller. Will the B120i, even though I am not using it, cause me any trouble if I were to install (or in the future upgrade) to ESXi 7.0?

EDIT: I found my old notes. I had disabled my B120i a long time ago via:

BIOS->PCI Device Enable/Disable->Embedded HP Dynamic Smart Array B120i RAID Controller->
Enabled is Default. I changed to Disable
BIOS->Boot Controller Order: I made P222 first and B120i second (B120i was 1st originally)

So, I would assume that above change will result in B120i not impacting an ESXi 7.0 install or upgrade.

Good news is that the HP P222 controller shows up in VMWare's Compatibility guide:

BIOS-> Dispositivo PCI Ativar / Desativar-> Controlador RAID HP Dynamic Smart Array B120i incorporado->

Did you notice any increase in speed? Worth it? I'm thinking of buying on AliExpress

At the time I got the P222 (nearly 5 years ago), I wanted hardware RAID, which has advantages over software RAID. And if I recall correctly, back then, some folks were having trouble with the B120i driver (some issue with being abnormally slow). So, I got the P222 right around the time I got my server.  I didn't bother running any formal quantitative tests to compare with the B120i.

In my tests, I have realized, that some HD models can be the problem of FAN

I read somewhere on here that adding PCIe cards always increase the fan speed/noise.

Hey folks, are there still issues with the B120i on ESXI 7?

I've just dusted off my server after a number of years gathering dust so just trying to see if its worth updating to 7.x or look into proxmox.

wold consider P222 if someone is selling at right price too.

Cheers

Pete
