Lower fan speeds

Im currently running in AHCI mode with latest BIOS

my fans speeds are reading 9% in the ILO

Yet i still cant help thinking this is still noisy even with a low reading fan

I remember when i 1st took it out it said it was running at fan speed 6% and i couldnt hear it at all

Yet as soon as i walk in the room i can hear it?

Also i read the link you sent about replacing the fan and its tempting

Only thing i can see bit off putting is there is no pictures of the equipment the guy used so would be difficult to make the 4pin to 6pin adapter

i can solder no problem i just would like to see what he used

The fan they used isn't very quiet once it gets past its minimum speed. Not much you can do about it except swap it out. The little PSU fan is quite noisy as well. I did consider getting a picoPSU 160W module which would be silent but decided it wasn't worth it since I'd still have the main fan.

It is just a simple wiring adapter. The issue would be finding the same type of plug used. If you can't find one then you'd have to butcher the existing fan cable.

I was thinking wouldnt some dupont crimp header connector's plug straight onto the pins of the motherboard rather than trying to find a non standard 6 pin plug to fit?

So say 3 female crimp headers to male pins that will connect directly to a standard WPM 3 pin connector

And then a single female to female loop for the ground

Or is the connection so small that dupont connectors wont fit?

Dupont 2.54mm are the standard size for motherboard jumpers and fan pins

The silent PC review article used a hacked up CDROM audio cable so I expect that the female 2.54mm crimp connectors are okay. You may want to blob some hot melt glue over it afterwards though so make it easier to unplug/plug and to avoid the possibility of shorts.

Yup i actually have a glue gun kicking around somewhere will start the quest to find it.

have been looking on quiet pc website for a 120mm fan this one looks good:

Coolink SWiF2-12P 120mm PWM Quiet Cooling Fan

800-1700 RPM

35.5 to 75.1 CFM

8.5 to 27.1 dBA
