actually it seems to depend. some things are free, and I like the idea of the meter running only while your machine is up. I'm going to be watching the topic until I can pick up something that might actually be useful for my situation.

The $200 free start is good only for a month. I was thinking of signing up and seeing how far I could stretch that $200 with a couple of virtual machines (one Win10 for sure). But its only good for one month...

If you're a developer, get an MSDN account. Some of them include free monthly Azure credits.

About $100 worth for the Basic MSDN developer account.  And $100, doesn't go far.

That's $100/month. 

Though, I think that's the "VS Platform" which is via volume licensing only.

 

The other ones are $50/month until you get to the higher end stuff (and it's back to $100/month).

 

As for how far it goes, that really depends on your usage. But for a single, small VM on Azure, it may be more than enough. At least to test out.
