New NAS recommendations

It appears to me that you have a lot of layers, with data having to pass through each one. I guess that must be affecting the performance.

I use a Synology 415+ 4 x WD Red. 3Tb and I've had no issues with its performance of running iSCSI for my lab and housing my music and growing video library. Not cheap but very good for what it is IMHO

Thanks, T1berious...that's sort of what I was looking for. So I finally made a decision! I went with the...drum roll...Synology DS1515+ with 5 WD Enterprise 2 TB drives! Yeah, not cheap, but looking long-term I won't have to purchase anything for a long long time

 

Synology support also informed me that their upcoming OS (DSM 5.2) will allow dynamic link aggregation without requiring LACP capable switches. Can't wait for that!

I returned my TVS-663.  QNAP's OS blew up when trying to run a whole 4 apps (32MB RAM Disk?  WTF?).  Useless.

 

Going back to UnRAID.
