Setup GEN8 (SSD)

Recommended Posts

I have 4 SSDs and would reconfigure it in my Gen8.

current situation:

1 SSD for OS via OOD
3 others in raid 0
4th bay 2TB backup

Is this a correct setup?

Sounds ok in theory.

Suggest you going to get a USB/SATA so you can still have the optical drive as well, then just tuck the SSD somewhere in the void.

  1. Be aware, if you put the SSDs into bays 1 to 3 (or 0 to 2, depending on how you number them), the first two will run at SATA III speed and the third will run at SATA II. I'm not sure about this, but it might be that all 3 SSDs will run at SATA II if they're part of the same array. I can't think of a good reason why that should be, but I would wonder about it.

  2. It seems apparent you don't have all that much data if you can fit it all on 3 SSDs and can do a complete backup on a 2TB drive.

  3. I hope the 2TB drive isn't your only backup. What happens in the event of a disaster: fire, flood, theft, or other??? Do you have your data backed up off site?
