Be aware that most of the 8TB drives on the market are design for archive, not general use.

What about 6GB drives? Are these for archive purposes or general use?

I can't seem to find anything on HP's website, only information is "8TB (4 x 2TB) 3.5-inch SATA", which is not correct as I have seen people using 4TB disks.

This guy (the OP) says that 6TB drives can be detected in the 4-bay drive cage but not on the ODD port: http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/ProLiant-Servers-Netservers/N54L-Proliant-server-doesn-t-recognise-6TB-disk-in-optical-drive/td-p/6599568#.VOqfNC4yh2E

But if you flash the BIOS with a 3rd-party image, it will unlock the capabilities of the ODD port and everything else on the server.

There are several 6GB desktop or RAID drives available. Are you planning on using a RAID controller or drive pooling software?

Not planning to use a RAID controller at this stage, if I do decide to use RAID then just software RAID instead of HW.

My second question is going to be is there a benefit in installing a RAID card? Does it bring any benefits?
