I'm going to look at QNAP too. I'm just afraid their CPUs will be too weak-assed as well. I wish some of these NAS makers would put at least an i3 into their boxes, or make it so you can upgrade the CPU and RAM yourself.

QNAP do machines with decent CPUs, but you have to pay for them.  The TS470 has an i3.  The TVS-471 has an i7!  Even the TS-453 Pro has a J2900 quad core which is more than enough for a home user, they'll do 2 1080p Plex streams easily.  Finally there's the new AMD APU-powered one, the TVS-463 that has a quad core 2GHz AMD chip in it with a decent GPU if using your NAS as a HTPC floats your boat.

Bottom of the ladder for me on QNAP is the TS-451 which has the J1900.  Dual core 2.41GHz Bay Trail.  Still enough to do Plex, and upgradable to 8GB so you can run a VM on it.  I very nearly bought the 451 myself, but decided I had to get rid of a load of the stuff I have lying about first...

Boy, do you ever! At a store in my area the TS-470 is $1,400 and the TS-471 is $1,800. That's a bit rich for my blood.
