impacts of encryption on server restoration?

I've had to restore my server several times over the last few years, sometimes after trying some new program on the server, sometimes after a bad patch/update from MS.

You are correct. You must connect the encrypted drive to another computer and decrypt it before restoring your backup.

Actually, I believe you can add the bitlocker support to the WinPE image used for restore.

If so, then you could unlock it and restore from the image, and not actually have to decrypt it.

This obviously would be the best solution, if it does actually work. 

 

I haven't had time to try it, but I did look into this myself.

 

 

 

However, BitLocker on Windows 8/Server 2012 and it may not be worth using for anything but theft prevention. Assuming the thief isn't a hacker type or knows any.
