HP N54L second drive bay unavailable

Hi,

Recently I started to set up a HP N54L as Free NAS storage box.

I added 4 x WD Red 2 TB drives to the drive bays.

First I installed the current Free NAS release on an USB flash drive.

Then I checked the drives available in the bios boot list / shell via camcontrol.

It seems that the second drive bay is not available.

I tried to swap the HDDs with other bays and checked the HDD serial numbers via camcontrol.

The drive in the second bay is not detected in each case.

I'm not using the ODD bay (only the power connector for a USB 3 pci card).

And a second intel NIC in the second pci-e slot.

Booting/restarting the system works without further issues.

Should I remove the rear panel and check the mounting plate?

Problem with the Mini SAS connection?

Any suggestions regarding this problem are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

BR,

Marc

At this point I don't think you have much to lose by checking the connections to Bay 2..... unless the unit is still under warranty/support contract. If that's the case, I would call HP.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes I'll give it a try. Maybe there is something wrong with the connections of bay 2.

I bought this box in summer 2013. So the 1 year warranty has already expired.
