Drashna Jaelre 157 Posted January 30, 2015 A bunch of networking stuff. Moving a lot of stuff around, so needed more cable. Got a spool of Cat6 (1000ft), terminators, and a wall plate. Just need to run the cable through the walls.

Drashna Jaelre 157 Posted January 31, 2015 Always a fun job, unless you have conduit with plenty of empty space inside. Nope... I wish. Also, couldn't run it through the walls... Existing hole was filled already and couldn't get all the required cable... Though I could if I had that nice cat6 "structured home" cable... but I wasn't willing to pay that much for a spool (or try to find one...). Especially as it the one cable was getting stuck in the insulation... And not enough room to drill another... So it's going in through the closet's roof (yes, very ghetto). The other option was to tear down some drywall , run the cable and then put up some new dry wall.... well, "F*** NO" was about the only response to that. Maybe in the future, but not right now. Now I just need to move my server (ikea lack) rack.

jmwills 284 Posted January 31, 2015 Just finished a run through the walls. Cut the drywall, drill through the plate, and come out in the garage. Moved all the servers to clean out the office above the garage. A pain to do but worth the effort.
HellDiverUK 99 Posted March 2, 2015 I got a 500GB WD Re4. Got it as a system pull off eBay, same Lenovo version I have from my TS140. Drive arrived in anti static bag inside a Jiffy bag. Unsurprisingly it's broken, especially as post man put it through the letter box so it had a nice 3' drop on to a tiled floor. It was supposed to be half a RAID1. Now it's a difficult eBay return (seller is of Asian origin with poor English). *sigh*
Drashna Jaelre 157 Posted March 2, 2015 Ouch. I got an 8TB Seagate Archive drive recently, packaged much the same. Fortunately, mine survived the trip. But yeah, I can't believe that ANYONE would package drives so carelessly. Even if you're lucky that it survives the trip, it can adversely affect the lifespan of the disk anyways. ikon 438 Posted March 2, 2015 Yesterday I got a BlueAnt Connect Bluetooth headset for my cellphone. This is by far the most comfortable bluetooth cellphone headset I've ever used. Today I got a 2ndNetgear Push2TV WiDi HDMI video receiver for use with my Surface Pro. It may be small, but it works a treat.
