Not sure. It's undoubtedly a cool advertising angle, if nothing else. 'Course, I have to wonder, if using a very low density gas is supposed to help, what about a vacuum?

The Helium definitely helps with high platter count drives.

Helium is expensive, they would not use it for marketing purposes.

They have tried to manufacture vacuum sealed drives, but they have not found a feasible manufacturing process.

I'm not so sure about that. Vacuums are pretty bad about transferring heat, I believe.

Radiant heat transfers just fine through a vacuum. Convective heat does not. Conductive heat will transfer through the metals that make up the drive.

 

I actually don't think heat transfer is a major issue. What I think might be a problem is the read/write heads. What are they going to float on?
