Yeah, ~$45 off of the normal price. ;)

Though, I'm not going to buy anything smaller than 4TB anymore.

That's my thinking too.

:)

Don't get me wrong, I have 8 HDD bays available..

but I got curious one day and put together a spreadsheet... barring discounts, 4TB is usually the sweet spot for price per GB.

I've been sort of waiting for 4TB or larger drives to become the lowest $/GB option. 6TB is where I'd really like to go. My total data store is a little under 5TB and is growing very slowly. So, 6 TB drives would make things much simpler, and more robust too.

I could put in a pair of 6TB in RAID1 for my main data storage, a single 6TB for my NearLine storage, and a couple more for OffSite-1 and OffSite-2.

Lowest priced new drives:

3TB drives are as low as $30/TB

4TB drives are as low as $32.5/TB

5TB drives are as low as $40/TB

6TB drives are as low as $42/TB

Depens on the day and where you're shopping at, but yeah, that's about the right ballpark generally.

Though, usually the 3 and 4 TB drives are usually a bit closer in price.
