Wake to backup

So I've always checked the box when installing the connectors that says to wake the computer up from sleep or hibernate to backup. How does that actually work? Is the server sending out a WOL magic packet? Will that work without any other configuration on the client computers? What about over wireless?

Have "Wake-On-Lan" (AKA Power on by PCI/PCIE devices) enabled in the BIOS. The setting will be in the Power section. The network signal, sent from WHS to que the backup, will wake up the client.

I have had very good results with S3 but bad results with clients in hibernate.

My laptop, and the wife's laptop, wake up from S3 and backup just fine over wireless.

Thanks. I've started setting up my computers to go to sleep after an hour of idle just to reduce power usage a little bit, but I wanted to be sure that they'd still be backed up if I did that. I guess I'll have to do some testing to see if they are all setup properly.
