Conneckter
Hi Everyone, today I orderd 4x WD RE 4TB (WD4000FYYZ) and a HP Smart Array P222 for my second Gen8 Microserver. I´m courios to see how good this would work in the Gen8, specifically the HDD´s. here can you open the product link: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=580 I have allready a P222 and 4x WD RED 3TB in my first Gen8 and this has been working very well till now. What are you thinking about the WD Datacenter product line?
ikon
I'm thinking, unless you're running very demanding apps, that combination should work very well. I do urge you to take the time to run those drives through a tester before putting them into production, something like HD Tune. I think Joe_Miner is one of our best resources on this, along with schoondoggy.

schoondoggy
Here is a nice reference: http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1397/~/difference-between-desktop-edition-%28wd-blue%2C-wd-green-and-wd-black%29-and-raid
Conneckter
That sounds great, but I'm thinking about a RAID10 for a better performance than RAID5 could deliever.
schoondoggy
Here is a good compare on RAID 5 versus RAID 10: http://www.buzzle.com/articles/raid5-vs-raid10.html with four drives, reads would be faster on RAID5, writes would be faster on RAID10. Recovery from a bad drive is much better on RAID10
