Yes you were correct, the fan speed never changed going from ahci to raid.

I'm going to swap to RAID10 4x3TB HDD soon and thinking which way I should go:

currently xpenology with DSM 6.2.1

- got HP360T network card to upgrade to DSM 6.2.2 and above (not installed yet)

- want to install 4 x 3 TB hdd on B120i (SATA mode?) or go for RAID on B120i?

Unfortunately with latest changes to DSM I need to use PCI-E for network card if I want to use baremetal so no go for P222 RAID. Or maybe go to ESXi (got 16 GB RAM and 1265L) and use that PCI-E for P222?

Can anyone advise?

With Xpenology you let manage the raid by DSM (the operating system) and not by a hardware raid controller. So set the controller to AHCI in the bios and you are ready to go.

Does this last version of xpenology works with integrated network controller?

I will have to use one of the spare disks to check that. But looks like best option is to stay on AHCI and use PCI-E for 360T network card to get DSM >6.2.2 running.

Maybe I'll find free time to use one of the HDD laying in attic and turn on RAID to see how this works, but best would be to go for HP P222 if this one works on DSM 6.2 and 1.03b loader...

I have not tried it, but some of the MS Gen8 install videos show manually entering the MAC addresses for the onboard NIC's to get them to install properly.

Last I checked there are no drivers in Xpenology for B120i or P222. It is recommended to use AHCI and let Xpenology take care of the RAID.
