foy1der
Hey everyone, I am really enjoying how easy it is to share photos with family and friends using WHIIST. Though I think it's time to move to something bigger and better. I've been looking at this page for a bit and I think I like the looks of TinyWebGallery. Does anyone have any experience setting up their WHS to host a more advanced web page than what comes with WHIIST? Also if you have any tips for photo hosting software (GPL Licensing please ), please let me know. I think that I want something that is password protected and allows for comments and things of that nature. Also if you think this idea is bat-poop crazy, I'd love to hear why (I don't generally think through all my ideas).
Dave
You must have a good upload speed! I've used gallery2 before and liked it. This one looks much simpler. Are you running php on your server already? Sounds like you need a complex system that might be better handled off the WHS. WHS can handle it though.
foy1der
It's a decent upload speed, maybe 5 mbps (600KB/s). I don't remember if I have PHP on my server. I know that I have SQL for my movies. I think that I might have PHP installed. There is an addin to install PHP right? The reason that I want to do it on the WHS is because there is a lot of wasted processing power so why not use it. Also MS gives you the free domain, so I don't have to worry about buying a domain or paying for hosting services. I like the customization that you get with Gallery2. I couldn't find any samples of TinyWebGallery.
kcormier
You might want to check out Gallery Server Pro - I've looked at various options and this seems to be a good solution. It may have less "flash"/features than others but I believe offers a good overall solution for a simple/centralized family photo server that all can access and take part in (e.g., let other members submit galleries to your hosted site/server). If you review the support forums you can see other users have deployed to a WHS with success. Full source code is available (C#, ASP.NET) if you're a tinkerer and the author is responsive on the forums. I am currently cleaning up my collection of photos and will be taking the next step sometime in the near future Edited July 7, 2010 by kcormier
