Product Install Key

Hello all,

I bought a second copy of WHS 2011 from Amazon, a while back.  Now Amazon looks to be out.  anyway, I put together my second server and was running through the install.  Low and behold, the product key is wrong.  I looked it over several times and it's "correct" as far as the IMMENSLY TINY FONT.  Called MS to see about gettign some help with it and I was told that I needed to come up with the correct install key and then call them back... I'm confused.  If I had the correct install key I would not have any reason to call them...  Has anyone else on the forums had this issue? If so, was there a resolution?

Well.  Part of the blame lies with me.  I bought the disk tem months ago, when I was planning on building a second machine.  Then I got lazy and didn't do it.  I tried to get a replacement from Amazon and they are showing that that item is not elegible for a "return".  Looks like the copies for WHS 2011 are drying up.  Augh.  I shouldn't have sat on it for that long.  Live and learn

I'm sure you've done it, but I would check the licence key again, particularly the 'B' and '8' characters. If you're not 100% certain of a character, try the other one. IOW, if you're 90% a character is an '8', try it as a 'B' instead.

That's the thing. It looks like a genuine copy. The only difference between the two copies I have is the product key.  The first copy is easy to read. The second is small and on a colored background.  Makes it difficult to decipher.  I've tried all possible character replacements.  At least I thought I did.  I'm contacting Amazon and seeing if I can talk to someone who can help.

That's suspicious at best. All the OEM stickers should be the same for the same product. That it is not, is a fairly clear sign that this is counterfeit.

And if Amazon isn't willing to do anything about this:

It should be noted, the report link *may* get you a copy from Microsoft.

Thank You Drashna!

I looked over Microsoft's site and foudn that page, but it did not dawn on me to contact them that this copy could be fraudulent.  Thanks again.  I'm going to contact them and see what is going on.

If the key doesn't work, then it's possibly fraudulent. If the COA sticker isn't right, then it's DEFINITELY fraudulent.
