oj88
Just wanted to put this out there... Would appreciate some advice. With the Gen 9 practically around the corner, the company I work for is looking into liquidating some 40 N40L Microservers to employees for about $100 apiece (equivalent to our local currency). They're practiclly brand new, old stock, and was told that they no longer have HP warranty. I personally think it's a good deal but I'm not sure if I should invest in one (or two). I have half a mind to set it up as a glorified NAS or Hyper-V/VMWare practice lab, but only if the CPU is still up for it, as I believe they're non-replaceable. Thanks! schoondoggy
For $100 it could be used for a router or HTPC or server. $100 is a good price if you have a use for it.
jmwills
For $100, I would absolutely get one. Any hookups available?
oj88
Thanks. I'll probably get a couple and unload the other one online. It would've been my pleasure to hook you up. But shipping it from Asia would most likely make it more expensive. If I crank up the memory to 8 or 16 GB, will I be ever to run VMs for lab testing and stuff? Thinking of ramping up on SCCM, SCOM, etc.
ikon
Yes, you can run VMs, but I wouldn't be doing anything heavy with them, even with more RAM. However, I think these are perfect router/UTM boxes, and $100, it's a no-brainer IMHO.
