webapprentice
Does anyone run a IPS/IDS application on their home servers? I am looking at running http://cyberarms.net/ and they have a free version. Just curious if anyone has used this or other products. Just curious

Poppapete
Yes, do the IPS/IDS before the server right after the modem. IOW get a decent router to do the job.

Drashna Jaelre
IPS at the router level is definitely the best option. Ikon uses Untangle, but Sophos UTM does that as well. In fact, one of my DNS testing tools gets flagged as a bot-net every time I run it (not surprising, based on how thorough it tries to be). Even lets you know which PC/device was the "troublemaker". Also, as a router device, it also detects port scans and other stuff on the external network.
