Nox
Just tried installing vmware on my microserver, and got some message about admission check failed. Seems it's because I currently only have 2gb installed, bring my planned upgrade ahead of schedule Is hp smart memory really worth it? The additional cost is half a cpu upgrade. Is it really the only stuff that doesn't show errors on boot up? Nox Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
schoondoggy
I have not had any issues using non-HP memory. I try to buy memory from someone that makes their own chips: Samsung-Crucial-SK Hynix after that I would go with Kingston-DataRam-Mushkin
Nox
You don't get a rude message about not having hp memory installed??? If not I'm definitely getting the same type you have! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
schoondoggy
Good question, I have not, but I know some have. Currently I have SK Hynix DIMMs in my Gen8. In iLo it shows that I don't have HP SmartMemory.
Shonk
There is no difference in the memory at all Hp buy in the ram and add a spd string so the bios will know if you paid for hp ram there is no performance gain no magic low power states no nothing its just hp's way of getting you to buy ram at double the price also the hp microserver documents even state that the microserver runs 1.35v ram at 1.5v so there is no point even getting low power ddr3 Edited September 26, 2014 by Shonk
tangcla
i'm running a stick of Kingston 8GB RAM (in conjunction with the standard 2GB for a total of ten) and have not had any issues at all. I have never had any messages re not using Smart Memory - it must be a configurable option somewhere.
Royco
Doesn't smartmemory offer some extra features? Like diagnostics with ILO? Does anyone know?
