Hi all,

I am curious, Is it possible to install WHS2011 onto a USB thumb drive and use that to start WHS2011 on the N40L?  I currently have WHS2011 on one of the disks, if it can installed / start from the internal USB port, then it leaves an extra slot for another hard disk.

Thank you

I would recommend against doing this. The issue is that all Windows OS' are almost constantly (or very frequently) writing to the OS drive. This will burn out a flash drive pretty quickly.

Well if you move the pagefile off to another disk, it may not wear it out as fast.

However, You'd need something that is ~65GBs minimum to do this. And you'd need to make sure it was USB3.0 and that the port you plug it into is as well.

Also, I'm not even sure that WHS2011 would even support this, as the installer is not the standard Windows installer, and is a custom one. At best, you'd need to use diskpart to set up the partition, and DISM to apply the image. And then HOPE it works right.
