can not connect to some websites using pfsense

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I'm unable to Access Some Websites.  Others are fine, some are not (they all work on my 4g phone connection).  I found this article here:

https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Unable_to_Access_Some_Websites

but it is not helping.  Any other ideas?

Restarting my modem and pfsense worked for an hour or so but now I'm back to the same issue.

thanks,

-Scott Baker

So i uninstalled snort, hvac, bandwithd, and darkstat.  Everything is now coming up with no issues.

I wonder if it's darkstat as I installed that yesterday.

I'll report back after a couple hours on whether the problem has come back.

My guess would be SNORT, actually.

But if disabling all of them fixes the issue.... try enabling one at a time, until the issue comes back.

I plan to do exactly that.  I also just noticed I can now rdp into my server 2012 machine with just the hostname.  Before removing the packages, I had to use the ip address.

That is definitely a DNS, and more specifically a networking issue.

Also, what was the HVAC package again? It's been a long while, and I'm not sure which it is (could be the culprit too)

Perhaps you felt it's implied, but you didn't actually say that it was working properly before darkstat was installed. If it was, then I guess you found your culprit.

my bad - I meant HAVP antivirus.

Yes - it was working fine before hand - but to be honest I've only been using pfsense for maybe 5 days - so it's hard to really say what is was like before.

Then I would disable darkstat and see if it starts working again.

I'll put my money on snort as the culprit. A similar thing has happened to me and turning off snort solved it.

It may have something to do with how strict the rules that you applied.

I've re-installed HAVP antivirus.  so far so good.  I'll update this post when I know more for sure.
