scottbakertemp 0
I just set up a pfSense machine. Are there any packages I should be using?
Dave 434
I'm about to reload mine to the latest rev. I switched to a different router but want to get back to pfsense. I'm interested in everyone's recommendations as well!

scottbakertemp 0
I have: apcupsd bandwidthd HAVP nut pfblocker squid3 squidguard-squid3 I also have snort but it's disabled at the moment. I started with these: bandwidthd HAVP snort Is there something that does more reporting than bandwidthhd? What's the point in squid? Doesn't your browser already have caching? oj88 136
It does more than caching. Squid goes with squidguard to filter certain contents. I use this combo to primarily block adult and other non-child friendly sites as well as most internet banner ads at the network level. I then use pfblocker to block IANA-assigned IP addresses from countries like China, N. Korea, etc.... just for the heck of it. Haven't ventured with other packages similar to bandwidthd. What sort of report do you need?

Big Worm 19
I only run pfblocker. The rest of my filtering is done by Untangle.

Does most everything that pfSense can do, and does it in a completely turnkey manner.
Jason 84
Another vote for Sophos. Drashna turned me on to it also. Transition from pfsense to it and haven't turned back. More turnkey, stable and definitely a more polished UI.
