HP ProLiant Gen9 MicroServer RUMORS

Installing from USB is where its at, the only time I use DVD's now is when I lost my USB sticks, which to be fair I go a lot, perhaps they should properly redesign the ODD bay so if there is no ODD fitted you can actually fit a drive in there without having to faff...

One benefit of having an optical drive, is that you can disable the USB. In some organisations it's considered a major security risk (to install malware or copy restricted data).

When there's a problem and you've disabled USB, you can still boot from a (non-writeable) recovery cd/dvd and do some forensics.

However, for a home user this is not so important. Maybe the optical drive is business feature (although the larger rackmounted servers ship without)?

I think disabling the USB ports on servers that are in a professionally managed, secure environment is not such a concern; I think it's way more of an issue on client workstations.

Regular employees will do whatever they can get away with, if it makes their job even a little easier, no matter what the rules of the corporation are. I have quite a little story about 1 employee who is a prime example of this, but I don't think this thread is the appropriate place for it.

Anybody heard anything?

Usually, there are some leaks around beta units, but this time I have heard nothing.

I don't think they'll bother.  To be fair, I'd rather they waited an did the next version with Broadwell.  Haswell isn't a big enough upgrade over Ivy Bridge for the Microserver, and the Microserver is always quite a bit behind in technology standards (the Athlon II Neo was pretty old when the Gen7 came out).

I honestly think the Microserver is a little side project for some team in HP...

Perhaps there is no need for a Microserver gen 9 yet? How do others find the Gen 8 performs? Is an update needed?

      Hi
My HP Proliant Microserver Gen 8 won't install HP Tools when I have running HP Smart Update Manager.
even when I have trying to install via Intelligent Provising, Windows Server 2019.

      Hi everyone.

      New to this forum.
I have a gen8 microserver running at home, where I have installed an SSD in the ODD sata slot. On the SSD I have installed Ubuntu Server 18.04.
I have then created a logical volume witht the raid controller and can then boot to the SSD. So far so good.
My problem emerges when I reboot the system. The logical volume disapears and it gives the error: "boot logical drive is configured but is missing or offline".
I then have to go into the utility and reconfigure the logical volume. Kind of annoying, when trying to run a headless setup.

      Greetings,

I'm new to the HPMSG8 world and so far I'm loving it. I have a stock Xeon with 16G of aftermarket memory with iLO patched to 2.70. Next up is adding a RAID card, so I can put my boot SSD on the onboard RAID. I picked up a LSI SAS9211-8i on Amazon, but am struggling to flash it to IT mode on the MicroServer. Is this even possible? Unfortunately, the only other system I have with PCI slots is 32-bit.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

FYI, I have just installed Windows Server 2019 Standard (Desktop Experience) using the latest (WS2016) HP AMD chipset & VGA driver. Everything is recognised in Device Manager and stable.

I need to update the firmware on a HP Proliant Microserver Remote Access Card installed in my N40L.

Can someone please explain what I need to do to create a boot device that will update the firmware on the Remote Access Card?

      Thanks

      Tony Self
