Windows 2012 R2 Essentials and Essentials Media Pack

Recommended Posts

jimbojimbo

Hi All,

New to the forum, not searched for this and hoping someone has a solution???

I have HP MicroServer Gen8 G2020T and successfully installed 2012 R2 Essentials along with Essentials Media Pack.  All seems to work nicely, however when I navigate from my SmartTVs (Sony and Samsung) Media on the server by "Folder" it doesn't find any content, although if I choose to navigate by either "All Videos" or "All Photo's" or "All Music" it finds media on my server - but there is too much content I have and not so good to navigate through.

I also have a HP MediaServer EX495 (Which I will replace once I'm 100% satisfied with the Gen8) and this server is running Home Server 2011, and I am able to navigate media by "Folder" without any issue.

Does anyone else have this problem and if you do/did, is there a solution? I want to navigate by "Folder".

Kind Regards

Jim

I would think this is probably going to be a Permissions issue since this is in a Domain, unless you enable access to "Everyone".  Just a guess on my part.

^^ What he said - this is most likely a permissions issue. Have a look at the permissions that the Videos and Photos folders have and replicate them on the Recorded TV folder.

Hi,

Are you guys able to access your content by folder?  I've just tried enabling Guest account and adding it with RX to the folders and files and still my Samsung TV is unable to find videos, error "No video files found on the connected device."

Is your Samsung able to see any  folders on the server?

Also, is it possible your files are in a format that the Samsung doesn't recognize?

Did you set the permissions on the shared folders to include "everyone"?

Here are the Video folder permissions, (see below) my Samsung Smart TV is able to navigate without any issue from Windows 2011 Home Server..

And I have also tried without success:

1.  Enable the guest account
2.  Add the everyone group to both the share and the security permissions.

D:\ServerFolders>net share Videos
Share name        Videos
Path              D:\ServerFolders\Videos
Remark            Videos
Maximum users     No limit
Users
Caching           Manual caching of documents
Permission        Everyone, FULL

The command completed successfully.

D:\ServerFolders>
3.  Open the Local Security Policy
4.  Network Access:  Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users = Enabled
5.  Network Access:  Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and Shares = Disabled

Here permissions working on Windows 2011 Home Server

D:\ServerFolders>cacls Videos

Doh!!! All Sorted now!

Silly me, I didn't check the settings under the dashboard, the Shared foder in the Media Libraries for each of the shares were set to "NO".

All sorted now - cheers

With my configuration, I have an HTPC using XBMC, connected to my television using HDMI.  The PC is a workgroup PC; I have a Windows Media Center-compatible remote, and a Logitech K400 wireless keyboard with touchpad.

I added a user that had read-only access to my primary videos folder (and all sub-folders in it).  I mapped out that drive on the HTPC, storing that user's credentials, and set it as a location in XBMC.  Everything works beautifully.

If you don't mind relaxing things some, you could set the "Everyone" group on the server to have read-only permissions to your folders; you might have to allow anonymous access to file shares as well to allow this to work from a device that doesn't have domain access.  I'm assuming your televisions don't have the ability to enter in credentials to log in to an SMB share?
