Recommend me a RAID Card

IIRC, that LSI SAS 9240 chipset isn't exactly great for RAID5. In fact, I've seen reports that say that the RocketRAID 2720 outperforms it in a RAID5.

The SAS 9240 is not going to win any performance benchmarks in RAID5, but then again it is over $50 cheaper than the RR 2720.

Most of the performance issues were reported in 2010 and over the last four years driver and firmware updates have improved the RAID5 performance.

Other than performance, I find the LSI cards to be more stable and compatible than HighPoint.

realsysadmin, let us know how you find the performance of the card. My apologies if it does not meet your expectations.

I'll absolutely agree with the stability.

I've used both cards (well, ibm serveraid m1015), and explicitly to pass through the disks to the OS. The RocketRAID would periodically drop one of my drives. Would have to reboot or reseat the drive (hotswap bay). The LSI card has been rock solid.

My 3ware 9650SE-4LPML has never exhibited any stability issues. 'Course, 3ware is now owned by LSI.
