jmwills
Does anyone have any experience with this? The one guide I saw looked too simple. Shut down the DVR Connect the external HDD (limit to under 2TB) and power up Power up the DVR and see if the unit finds the new drive and if so allow the DVR to format the drive. Thanks in advance. schoondoggy
It needs to be supported in your area. This dates back to 2013: http://media2.comcast.net/anon.comcastonline2/support/help/faqs/xdvr/48760-External-DVR-Launched-Markets-4-26-13.pdf Here is a thread on the topic: http://forums.comcast.com/t5/XfinityTV-and-Equipment/External-Hard-Drive-Support-for-Motorola-Scientific-Atlanta/td-p/1463565/page/19 I think the supported drive is the WD My Book AV with a eSATA connection. http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/cable-tv/external-dvr-storage/
jmwills
Thanks. A drive is a drive and I do see my area is covered so I will report back. I've got a couple of 1TB 2.5" drives this would be a good application for.
schoondoggy
Which DVR do you have?
jmwills
To be honest, not 100% sure but I think it is the Motorola DCT3400
schoondoggy
Last post on the first page: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27579871-Comcast-Equip-DVR-Extender-w-Moto-Boxes Non-WD drives seem to work. When they first enabled this, rumor was the DVR would only format a WD MyBook AV.
jmwills
Thanks. It looks like every connector is active except for the Ethernet adapter. Go figure.
jmwills
Thanks Kevin. A bare drive in a docking station worked as long as it was an eSata connection. 2TB of extra storage now available.
schoondoggy
I have the same DVR and have been waiting for the port to be turned on in my area. I think I will plug a drive in and try it.
