ESXi 5.5 VMX editing issues...

Hey all,

Having a jolly old time playing around with my N54L, however I need to change the location of where ESXi snapshots are saved (to a hard drive other than the one where my guest VMs are living) and when reuploading the VMX file for that particular VM (Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS), the actual new VMX file it self isn't recognised by VSphere.

I've tried removing the VM from the inventory, uploading the VMX file, and then re-adding the VM back into the inventory (also with no luck).

I've attached both old and new VMX files if anyone would be kind enough to have a look at them for me, as I am completely stumped here. The only thing I can think of that may be a problem is that I'm running the evaluation version of ESXi? Does editing a VMX file require a full valid paid for license?

Old VMX: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11359089/NEWUbuntu%20Server%2014.04%20LTS.vmx

New VMX: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11359089/OLDUbuntu%20Server%2014.04%20LTS.vmx

The file was editing by following the instructions from this page: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&docTypeID=DT_KB_1_1&externalId=1002929

Also worth noting that I can't SSH into the datastore to edit it with nano, or I'd do it that way, if anyone knows of a guide to do it this way, that would be helpful?

Thanks in advance guys.
