Memory for t20

Esxi hangs even if I use individual sticks. But it takes longer time. Didt wait 5 min before.

But the stock memory, the 4 GB works very much fine.

Then this really sounds like a HW/SW compatibility issue. It could be that ESXi may not be able to install using any 8GB sticks in a MicroServer.

But, how about a workaround: what about installing ESXi using the 4GB stick, then swapping it out for 1 or both 8GB sticks after installation is complete? You might even be able to have all 3 sticks installed after installation.

It works sometimes, sometimes not. No logic at all!

But ESXi hangs even if I install it with a 4gb and replace it afterwards with 8 gb. But sometimes it works and then it works very good. Very stable.

It hangs under the installation on different places everytime, on the loading screen No logic!

But it always works with 4GB sticks? If so, that may be the route you have to take.

Have you installed 2012 R2?

By the screen shot on the other page, your memory appears to be KVR16E11/8.

Not sure if there's any difference between the KVR and system specific models like KTD, KTH, KTL.

Hmm, how can you tell its KVR16E11 and not KTD-PE316E/?

And no, I didt manage to install 2012r2 because of its freezes.

I can't tell for sure, and I'm not sure what the differences are between the regular KVR and the system specific models for major OEMs, but looking up the code from your screenshot I found a PDF on the Kingston's website where the same BOM number is listed for the KVR16E11 module.

I just tested another T20 with 4x 4GB Hynix UDIMMs and everything is stable. The modules are the original T20 Hynix (taken form 3 other machines).

I also tested with a 4x 8GB 1333MHz 1.5V kit and there are no signs of stability problems.

I still recommend low volt 1.35V memory for Haswell machines that run 24x7.
