Hi all,

I'm new to here and I'm also going to get a hp ms gen8 as my first home server.

I spent few days to go through a lot of posts from gen8 forum & I learned a lot from here too, thanks to all who did input your time & knowledge to here.

According to other forums, they all mentioned that the intel RS2BL080 is identical to the LSI 9260-8i, and I have no doubt about it, but does it mean that the intel RS2BL080 work with gen8?

I have checked the "RAID" section under the post "ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 Links", and I couldn't found anyone who mentioned about RS2BL080. Should I go for a cheap & used intel RS2BL080 for gen8?

Thanks in advance for you help??

Kevin

I have run a LSI9240-8i in a Gen 8, it worked fine, but there was a bit of conflict with the B120i on board RAID. The P222 and the B120i work well together.

What OS are you looking at running? How much storage do you need? What do you plan to use the server for?

tks schoondoggy for your reply,

Would you like to share what conflict with 9240 & B120i?

About OS, I have 2 plans in my mind...

1. exsi with win7 (because I know that there is no hp HW drivers for win7)

2. win server 2012.

About the data storage part, I'm planning to have...

B120i >> 2 x 120GB SSD for OS, 1 x 1T 2.5" HDD for download station

9260 >> RAID1 with 2 x 3T for my photos (raw + jpg) / RAID0 with 2 x 3T for mp3 & mkv medias

I want to pick 9260-8i because there is an used one costs HKD $1800 (~USD $250) locally.  :D

It was just during pre boot getting into set up for the B120i was not possible with the LSI card in the system. If I remember correctly, I set up the B120i, then added the LSI card.

then it is not a problem for me, as my plan above, I will keep the B120i for boot drives.

thanks for your sharing!!

As above you may not be able to boot from the b120i whilst using the card.

I don't believe you will be able to boot from the b120i using the LSI card.

Some people have used I think the M1017 with the advanced key. But I don't think they were booting from the B120i
