Easy mod to add more 2.5" or 3.5" drives to a T20

Well, the bottom part of it is not unique (as I have seen something similar on their Optiplexes), but they weren't using slim ODDs.

From my experience, you'll have a tough time with Dell actually selling you the spare part. The easier way is to find some retailer that sells Dell equipment and they "may" have one to sell.

I actually have a few T20s and I can take one cage out and try to fit it into another chassis.

It looks like the slim ODD part of the cage can be removed; I might try and see how that goes.

There's a lot of Optiplex parts out there but almost nothing that is T20-specific. The Precision T1700 appears to use the same chassis as the T20 but minus the removable upper cage. It might be possible to put some type of 5.25" to 3.5" bay/adapter into the empty T20 upper cage holder and move the removable cage into the open area between the upper and lower cages. When I have time next week I will spend some time investigating. First I want to see if the 32GB of Kingston RAM works, it still has not arrived.

You know guys, aluminum is pretty easy to work. You might consider just making your own cages.

Maybe if you work the aluminum you could forget about all those pieces ;)

I bought one of these:

and two of these:

It looks like the two drive cage should fit on top of the lower drive cage.

If this all works, you could have:

Six 3.5" drives

Four 2.5" 9.5mm drives in the Orico

Two 2.5" 12.5mm drives or a ODD in the ODD bay

Now we're talking. Already found them and they're not very expensive. When do you expect to get your hands on them and see how they fit?

Just need to figure out how to attach:

There is not room for the four drive Orico, but I think a two drive will fit:

Oh well, my four-drive Orico came yesterday; I want to mount two 2.5" 9.5mm SSDs, one 2.5" 7mm SSD and keep the ODD  :( Will keep looking for a solution for the SSDs.

My HDD cage and caddies will be delivered today  :D Thanks for sharing your research!
