SSD Performance in ODD Bay

I've got my Gen8 running the Hp version of Esxi 5.5 with 12GB ram. Along with a pair of 3Tb Reds and a 2Tb HDD and a 128GB SSD. The performance is as good as I need.

But I'm running out of space. The primary VMs are a 2012 R2 Standard and a couple of Centos instances. The 2012 VM takes about 6TB at the moment with the remaining space used by the Centos instances and a couple of other test VMs.

If I moved the SSD to the ODD drive would I see a massive performance hit given that the ODD is only Sata2?

It's really only used by the 2012 VM and as a cache for esxi. I've always made sure that memory usage isn't 100% so there's no memory swapping to the ssd.

it will max out at 260 mb/s I'm running a Sata II and the performance is very satisfactory - can't tell the difference between bay 1 and ODD port.

I agree with Stix01.  It will be slower but for the server OS will more than acceptable
