Does anyone have some experience with installing ESXi 5.5 on an out-of-the-box G8 (G2020T)? Im running into some problems i can not really track down to the core (see http://tinyurl.com/qjpsxfb for the basics).

I tried the customized HP ESXi version vSphere 5.5 U1 17 March 2014 (and also tried with vSphere 5.5 Feb 2014) found here: http://tinyurl.com/9jt6t2b, but I still have some problems with the hardware (HDDs) as it seems.

Any help or experience sharing would be appreciated. Thank you.

While I did 5.5U1 briefly, I already had my Xeon processor installed, so I had VT-d support (which the G2020T CPU does not have).

It may benefit you to have a processor with VT-d support, even if it's not a high-end one.

True, thats an additional goodie for sure. Meanwhile i found out that vSphere 5.1 U1 Sept 2013 Version (also HP Customized ESXi) works fine without any issues as described before.

Check the HP kb, as there's an article about non-support of DirectPath when using ESXi versions later than 5.1 U1 (?)--customized image or no. Although, that doesn't seem to bear on your issue... FWIW I have set up the custom 5.5 image with WD Reds at the onboard controller though never experienced a flurry of drive head churning noises. You've checked out these drives on another machine, right
