Don W
I was just wondering if anyone has used the ALIX boards for pfsense and how good it is? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Drashna Jaelre
You can definitely run pfsense on an ALIX board. But the more you want to do with the system, the more CPU power and memory you'll need. Have you checked out the hardware guide for pfSesnse yet? https://pfsense.org/hardware/index.html And were you going to use the web filter (squid) or anything else on the system? ikon
I think one thing people need to keep in mind is that these software UTMs/firewalls/routers are a lot more powerful than consumer grade routers, so they do require more power than what a typical consumer router contains. darkside34
We still have some PFsense on alixboards kicking around at work. They can do about 70mbps of traffic, or about 50mbps with QoS turned on. We have recently started using the APUs (upgrade of the alixboards) and they can do about 350mbps of traffic without QoS and 300mbps with. You can get more out of them if you turn on ip fastforward, but it can sometimes cause problems with SDN protocols so we leave it off.
