I don't think anyone has gotten non-ecc memory to work in the Gen 8

If someone *has* gotten non-ECC memory to work, it would likely be because they had put a non-ECC processor in the system first.

 

Stock processors (and Xeons) use ECC memory controllers.

Yep.  I commented on the one blog where someone mentions putting an i5 in a Gen8, asking about memory, three weeks ago.  Comment is still awaiting moderation.
