Dell PowerEdge T20 Server $199

Yes.  The only downside is you are stuck with their MOBO forever unless you like to use a Dremel.  I tried to find a view where I could see the inside of the case to see how many drives it would hold  None available

Update:  it will hold 4x3.5" drives and 2x2.5" drives total.

im ok with using there motherboard.  Im looking to put in 4 hard drives and maybe a dvd drive into this.  210 shipped is a great price for what you get here.  I need to make sure I can run vms on this.

ok from what im reading, you will need to get some extra power cables and sata drives for 5 and 6th sata devices.  So right now you can put in 4 3.5in hard drives.  If you cant to add cd drive you will need to get power and sata cable.

This is perfect timing.  I was looking at doing some upgrades to the hp box but for 50 bucks more I can get a brand new server.  I was looking at t110 but this will do everything i need and use less power.  Need to price one out with a xeon and I will be set for a while.  Thank you for posting this.

I think a XEON would be a good idea, that would enable Intel ATM technology:

9. Systems management
The PowerEdge T20 offers Intel Active Management Technology (AMT). Intel Xeon platforms
equipped with Intel AMT can be managed remotely, regardless of whether they are powered up or
have a functioning operating system.
Intel AMT Manageability Server 9.0 features include:
 Intel Intelligent Power Node Manager
 Power Management service assisting BMC
 Boot control
 Power state management
 Hardware/software inventory
 Hardware alerting
 Audit logs
 Microsoft Network Access Protection (NAP)
 Fast-call for help; remote schedule maintenance
 Measured AMT
 KVM remote control and re-direction/enhancements
 PC alarm clock
 Firmware upgrade/downgrade
 Host-based setup and configuration
 AMT graceful shutdown

Server and embedded server management
The Dell PowerEdge T20 is Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) v2.0 compliant.

Hah, you anticipated my question. That's $300 for the CPU upgrade. Does that seem a little high?

With a LGA 1150 Socket this opens up some possibilities...............

Are you saying that you (each person) can only buy one T20 at that price?

Let's see.....sell two N40L's and replace with one Dell.  Well, the wife did say that I had two get rid of two things to get something new.

Well, I have sold off one N40L -- besides getting rid of the other I think she will require me to clean the basement...................................

I think I'll stop on the way home and pick up some wine........................

I tried the coupon and it said it had already been redeemed.

That has burst my bubble........................

If the coupon is not good it is a $200 difference, for a XEON and a 1TB drive.
