Monitoring HDD health on Gen8

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Just wondering what software you are using to monitor hard drive health on the gen8

I used to use HDD Sentinal, but it does not work on the Gen8 as its controller is not supported.

Im running windows 2012 r2

Shameless self promotion: Assuming you're using Windows, have you tried StableBit Scanner?

Stablebit Scanner only works if using drives in AHCI, not if configured to use the B120i RAID when the SmartArray is meant to monitor the drives with max temp showing in iLO4 and the B120i meant to warn of predicted failure.

I use Stablebit DrivePool & scanner myself in AHCI mode.

^I agree. The OS typically needs to have direct physical access to the drive for applications to read SMART data. But if a RAID controller is doing some sort of abstraction, SMART data will only be available to the controller and not the OS.

On the subject, I use Hard Disk Sentinel.
