Be nice and respectful. Don't use the Forum as a means to support your own business.

Those would be my rules.

Do we really need official rules? Treat people decently, as you would  like to be treated.

No...but the forum is called Forums Rules and News.

LOL, do we really need a Rules and News forum? :D

Well, where the heck else are we going to discuss why we don't need rules?

As far as news, it does seem a bit redundant, when you consider the content of every other forum...

Maybe it should be the Forum for No Rules and Where Not To Look for News Since That Is In Every Other Forum.

Hey Guys,

I've never really had to set the rule or expectations in this community.  It has been mostly self policed.  I understand that we are growing and it's probably a good idea to get it down in writing.  However, when you registered for the board you were presented with the terms and rules.  Here they are as a refresher:

Forum Terms & RulesPlease take a moment to review these rules detailed below. If you agree with them and wish to proceed with the registration, simply click the "Register" button below. To cancel this registration, simply hit the 'back' button on your browser. Please remember that we are not responsible for any messages posted. We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message. The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of this bulletin board. Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately by email. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary. You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this bulletin board to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise a violation of any law.You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by this bulletin board.

Those are the basics of any forum.  There is also a spam policy that is enforced by admins and mods that is universal as well. First time posters are not allowed to advertise their wares, sites, etc.  It's also good idea to participate in the forum instead of linking out all the time.  If the majority of your posts link out to your own content elsewhere you could be asked to stop.

If you are second guessing if it's allowed or not, you might want to run it by an admin or mod first.

The marketplace forum has a subset of rules that can be found in its category.  Don't link to other commission links, or your own commission links and don't try to sell anything that is not tech related.  Sell your server parts, not your car parts. This forum also has built in rules of minimum posts.  You must have at least 10 posts in the forum before posting in The Marketplace.

The only real issue we have had is the occasional spat between a few members.  It usually ends up in PM's, air cleared, and move on.  It happens.  This is a great community and like I said, mostly self policed.  I would like it to stay that way in the future.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention and if you have any feedback for me drop me a line via PM.  Oh, the last rule, download the podcast. Every week.

Dave

Signatures

If you have a website or twitter a single link is allowed.  Commissioned links or referrals to any other site is not allowed.  List your tech related gear. Keep it clean.  I usually ignore signatures especially if they are link heavy and wordy.  All signature links are subject to take down or prior approval. If a mod or admin notices a funky link in your signature it might get yanked.

Vendors

If you are a vendor of a tech related product you need to declare yourself to an Admin.  PM me or Christopher Kenney and your forums ID will have a vendor tag added to it.  If your prefer to remain anonymous please state your intentions to an admin as well.  We will work something out.

Commissioned Link Notification

Occasionally you will see some of your words auto linked to a participating commission site.  The HSS forums is powered by your commission purchases and if you say, "ebay" in a post the forum software will usually link to ebay and use the HSS commission tag.  This is automatic and it helps pay the bills.

This also applies to signatures.  The forum software will sometimes recognize a part number you put in your signature and it will "monitize" it and link to ebay, amazon, newegg, etc.
