Thinking of moving from Synology NAS to HP microserver

You can install onto 1 of the 4 WD Red drives, but a lot of people here recommend keeping your OS on a separate drive -- I'm one of them. You could install an SSD using one of schoondoggy's patented drive carriers that mounts to the PSU. I believe there is also room enough under an optical drive to place an SSD. The only issue is you might have to add a SATA card to the unit to get enough ports (I can't recall exactly).

Dont forget the built-in microSD slot on the motherboard.  Most non-windows OSs (including VMWare) can install and run off that too! :)

Are you the end user or would you be reselling them?

Hi

Thanks, are you able to make any recommendations? Or should I just enter 9.5mm as my search criteria?

Panasonic is the only one I have found. They make tray and slot loaders.

Any of the bigger HP re-sellers can configure to order, for a price. CDW does a lot of config work.

I also wanted to point out that if you get the Gen 8 and run Esxi / Zen , you can run xpenology in a vm if you'd wish to have the apps that come with DSM.
