Please help with advice on how to configure my ESXI 5.5 build?

Hi all,

If anyone could take a look at my below config and setting to see if everything is set optimal for performance I would appreciate it!  :D

I recently purchased a HP gen8 microserver, upgraded it with 16GB ecc ram and Xeon e3-1265L v2,

Now sits at 48c idle, (45w), cooler is rated at 35w but seems fine,

Items at my disposal:

2x WD RED HDD 2TB sata 6gb/s

1x Samsung 830 SSD 128GB 6gb/s

1x HP Gen8 Microserver (standard internal RAID)

My current config:

The two red drives in raid 0 with ESXI installed, ssd not in use,

Current RAID config:

My current RAID settings:

Rebuild priority = medium

surface scan priority = 3s idle

physical drive cache state  enabled

read cache size = 128mb

Should I set up the SSD with ESXI install and use it for OS's or would it be a waste of time?

Any hints or tips on how to get the most out of the setup would be much appreciated!

:D

EDIT:

I have currently installed esxi to the main raid array of the two WD's,

The server has an internal usb2 and an microSD card, should I have installed ESXI to one of those? (would it have enough bandwidth?)

Sorry for all the questions,

Just did hdd performance test, something is very wrong,

Considering everything is on the same raid array I'm getting some very slow and very strange,

Crystal disk benchmark is reading the following for a win2012 r2 essentials vm:

(os)c: = read 32mb/s write 53mb/s

(data)z: = read 133mb/s write 138mb/s

Something has to be wrong!!

I'm just reinstalling vm tools to see if that will change anything,

Tried that didn't work for me.

Also reinstalled ESXi, didn't solve it.

Also tried the HP custom image for ESXi, didn't solve it.

So it has to be the hp smart array?

But i can't test it until next sunday, so hope you find something, keep me posted!

Will do,

I am also using the HP custom 5.5 image,

I have also updated all firmware and bios, are your raid setting the same as my'n?:

Current RAID config:

My current RAID settings:

Rebuild priority = medium

surface scan priority = 3s idle

physical drive cache state  enabled

read cache size = 128mb

So my RAID config was the same.

Wat i did yesterday:

Installed ESXi on the internal sd card slot. (ESXi does not have the performance issues)

Created a new RAID config:

Rebuild priority: low

surface scan: disabled

cache disabled

Did not have the time to test the new RAID. Going to this evening.
