losing faith in client restores

Recommended Posts

I was able to change the lease time on my modem/router and successfully get my client restored.

That problem sounds awfully familiar. I needed to do restore only once before with WHS v1 and had the same issue. My super router gave out 1 hour leases and the restore would fail when that time was up. I now do six hour leases, solved the issue and I have not seen any drawbacks.

Even six hours is an overkill, IMO.  A inimum of 72 hours up to 7 days should work just fine.

Yeah, a very familiar problem. Stupid DHCP and IP renewal...

This post is also familiar. I think I helped solve this one on WGS's forums, actually. :)

My lease time is measured in months, not hours or days. Why would you need anything else on a home LAN?

True, but one thing people forget is that at the 50% mark on the lease the server is going to check to see if the client i still there.  Short leases create too much unnecessary traffic on the network.
